2014 Softball Tournament Live Coverage and Quick Facts
The 2014 Empire 8 Softball Tournament is ready to get underway, with four teams battling for a chance to win the postseason conference championship and earn the E8's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship.
The playoffs begin on Friday, May 2 with four games. Second-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology plays third-seeded Alfred University at 10am, followed by top-seeded Ithaca College verse fourth-seeded Utica College at 12pm. The losers of the first two games are scheduled to play at 2pm in an elminiation game, while the winners from games one and two will play each other at 4pm.
The tournament will continue with two games Saturday, and one more, if necessary, on Sunday.

Tournament Quick Facts
The Empire 8 Athletic Conference will employ a four team double-elimination tournament format for the 13th straight year (2002-2014).
Ithaca returns to the tournament as the No. 1 seed for the 12th time. The Bombers have only missed the tournament once (2013).
Stevens is making its third appearance in the tournament since joining the E8 conference in 2007-08.
Alfred is back in the tournament for the seventh straight year and eighth overall.
Utica is making its second straight appearance in the tournament and fourth overall.
Ithaca is the only team in the tournament that has won a Championship (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2012).
The longest tournament game went 16 innings in 2009 with Ithaca defeating RIT, 1-0.
Stevens and Alfred have met one time in the history of the tournament (2012, Alfred won 5-4). The two teams split the 2014 regular season doubleheader.
Ithaca and Utica split its 2014 regular season doubleheader and have met on two occassions in the tournament. The Bombers won both times (2006, 13-0 and in 2007, 4-0).
Ithaca and Stevens have played once in the tournament, in 2011 with the Bombers winning 4-3.
Utica and Stevens have never faced each other in the tournament.
Utica is 2-0 against Alfred in the tournament.
