Ducks and Golden Flyers Fall 8-1
TCNJ 8, STEVENS 1
The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to The College of New Jersey on Saturday in a windy, inter-state match-up.
TCNJ took the first two points of the match when freshman Anna Prestera and junior Sarah Lippincott knocked-off sophomore
Julia Guignard and freshman
Lily Bruenjes in third doubles 8-0, followed by a win at first doubles for sophomores Jasmine Muniz-Cadorette and Emma Allen over senior
Lisa Tessitore and junior
Jessica Bourque 8-2.
The Lions finished the doubles sweep with freshman Katie Buchbinder and senior Tara Criscuolo's 8-4 win at No. 2 over junior
Danielle Stewart and sophomore
Alexis Connor.
Lippincott extended the TCNJ lead at sixth singles with a straight-set win over Bruenjez, then clinched the match at fifth singles with Prestera's 6-1, 6-2 win over Connor.
TCNJ took the next point with a straight-set win at No. 2, then another at No. 4 when Allen beat Guignard 6-2, 6-0 over Guignard. At third singles, after Tessitore took the first set 6-4, Criscuolo came-back with a 6-2 win in the second before edging Tessitore in the third-set tiebreaker 10-4.
The Ducks picked-up their point at No. 1 with Bourque's come-from-behind win. After dropping the first set in a tiebreaker, Bourque took the second 6-2, then completed the win with a tiebreaker win in the third 10-6.
The Ducks will wrap-up the spring portion of their schedule on April 9 when they host SUNY New Paltz at 3:30 p.m. on the Stevens tennis courts. Be sure to check stevensducks.com that evening for match recap and results.
St. Lawrence 8, NAZARETH 1
Senior
Alison Tepas gained Nazareth lone point Saturday in women's tennis as the Golden Flyers dropped a non-conference match to visiting St. Lawrence, 8-1, at Mendon Racquet Club.
In a rematch of the championship match of the New York State Tournament that Tepas won last fall, the Nazareth senior defeated Elkie Vandenbeemt of St. Lawrence in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. Tepas improved to 19-4 overall in singles matches. The Golden Flyers close out their season with a match against William Smith Thursday at 4 p.m.
St. Lawrence got straight-set singles wins from Olivia Arroyo, Morgan McNeal, Georgia Comber, Anna Young and Hallie Young.
In doubles, the closest match was at #1, where Comber and Anna Young defeated Nazareth's team of Tepas and
Ami Petosa, 8-4.
