Saxons topple Highlanders, 24-7

HOUGHTON, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team handed Houghton College a 24-7 loss, on the road Monday evening.

AU held a 7-4 advantage at halftime and poured on the offense in the second half, scoring 17 goals to Houghton's three. For the game, Alfred outshot Houghton 48-20, and freshman midfielder Jimmy Pratti (Minisink, NY/Minisink Valley) went 25-for-32 on face-offs.
           
Senior attack Brett Carroll (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon-St. Jude) paced the Saxons with four goals while senior midfielder Brendan Sullivan (Stafford, VA/North Stafford), sophomore midfielder Tanner Morse (Corning, NY/Corning East), sophomore midfielder Jeff Bero (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman), and freshman attacker John Winchell (Vestal, NY/Vestal) all netted two goals each.
           
Winchell and freshman defender Chris Deisenroth (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) both forced two turnovers for the Alfred defense.
           
Junior Tyler Beyor (Carthage, NY/Carthage) made five saves in the first 37 minutes of play before junior goalie Cody O'Connor (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) (two saves) took over for the remaining 23 minutes of play.  
           
Alfred (4-5, 1-2 Empire 8) returns to action against Utica College on Saturday, April 12, at 4 p.m.
