Men's results
Empire 8 track and field teams competed at the U of R Alumni Event Sunday hosted by the University of Rochester at the Edwin Fauver Stadium.
NAZARETH
Sophomores
Luis Rivera and
Brandon Vuolo broke records in the hammer throw and shot put respectively.
Rivera finished second in the hammer throw with a school-record heave of 47.48 meters (155 feet, 9 1/4 inches) and Vuolo was seventh in the shot put by breaking his own school record with a distance of 13 meters (42 feet, 7 3/4 inches). Senior
Jake Lafaver ran in the 1,500 meters and finished ninth in 4:05.81, less than four seconds behind the winner in a closely contested race.
UTICA
The Pioneers were led by
Rayshawn Scott who recorded a leap of 14.08 meters in the triple jump. Scott also placed fourth in the high jump (1.85 m) for five team points.
Junior
Corey Zlatniski broke the schools record in the 1,500 run with a time of 4:06.22.
The men's 400 meter relay team took fifth place and four team points with a time of 44.44, less than two seconds off the win. The team consisted of junior
Frank Volino Jr. , freshman
Christian St. Amour, and seniors
Shane Ruffing and
Trevor Gibson.
Ruffing and junior
Andrew Hoover combined for 11 team points in the 110 hurdles as Ruffing placed third (15.48) and Hoover fourth (16.09).
Hoover, Ruffing and Volino totaled six points for Utica in the 400 meter hurdles as they took spots six through eight. Hoover placed sixth (58.14) with three points, Ruffing finished seventh (58.40) with two points and Volino eighth (59.15) with one.
Sophomore
Kyle Cairns made up the distance squad for UC Sunday running the 10,000 meter run. Cairns grabbed two points with his clock of 33:45.40.
ST. JOHN FISHER
Eric Riley won the high jump, clearing 1.95 meters to set a new Fisher record, while earning 10 points.
Fisher's 4X400 relay team of
Devin Cornelius,
Trevor Wilkes,
James McDowell and Riley placed second over with a time of 3:26.17, good for a new Fisher record.
Wilkes was fourth in the 200 (22.62), good for five points, while
Will Sterriker also picked up five points with a fourth-place finish in the 400 hurdles.
Kyle Koehler was sixth in the shot out at 13.06 meters.
Joe D'Agostino picked up two points with a seventh-place finish in the 100-meters, posting a time of 11.43 seconds.
Kyle Barry also earned two points for Fisher, finishing seventh in the hammer throw. He qualified for states and set a new Fisher record with a toss of 43.90 meters.
HOUGHTON
Austin Groff finished eighth in the 10,000 meters in 33:55.24. Jordan Cady was 15th in the 400 meters (53.45). Josiah Evans finished 16th in the 110 meter hurdles (17.86) and 11th in the high jump (1.75). Jacob Liddle was 15th in the long jump (5.76).
