Empire 8 track and field teams competed at the U of R Alumni Event Sunday hosted by the University of Rochester at the Edwin Fauver Stadium. 


UTICA
Freshman Bria Hilliard broke the school record in the hammer throw with a hurl of 37.65 meters. Sophomore Sarah Waitr registered a soar of 11.49 meters  in the triple jump.

The women's 400 meter relay including freshmen Brenna Stewart and Nikiya Harris along with senior Anastasia Bowden and Wiatr were victorious as the squad carded a final time of 49.62 for ten team points.

Stewart, Bowden, Wiatr and senior Samantha Prendergast (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor) took third in the 1600 meter relay collecting six points with a time of 4:08.69

Bowden grabbed five points in the 400 meter dash as she placed fourth with a clock of 59.35.

ST. JOHN FISHER
Paige Willson won the shot put and broke her own Fisher record with a distance of 12.59 meters.  The junior also took sixth in the javelin.

Fellow throwers Taylor Youngkrans and Joanna Vassiliou were third and seventh, respectively, in the hammer throw with both qualifying for states.

Freshman Allison Corretore and Melissa Vaughn were fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 100 hurdles with both individuals breaking the existing Fisher record.

Fisher's 4X800 relay team of Sarah CoonSammy Van GeeSydney Saccone and Kaylee Zbytek broke the Fisher record and placed fourth overall with a time of 10:12.16, just missing ECACs by .16 seconds.

Morgan Mastin was sixth in the 200 with a time of 26.81, meeting the NYSCTC A standard.


NAZARETH
Sophomore Gabrielle LeBihan shattered the school record in the 5,000-meter run Sunday to lead Nazareth's women's track and field team to a sixth-place finish.

LeBihan and Nazareth freshman Emily Thompson finished 1-2 in the 5,000-meter run. LeBihan's time of 18:08.11 shattered the Nazareth record of 19:01.30 set by Ashley Hughes in 2007. She was nearly nine seconds ahead of Thompson, who ran 18:17.08.

Sophomore Taylor Pierson finished second in the long jump with a leap of 5.37 meters (17 feet, 7 1/2 inches) and junior Hannah Brackley was third in the 200-meter dash (26.52). Junior Michaela Gildemeyer competed in both the 800- and 1,500-meter runs and placed fourth and seventh respectively with times of 2:19.55 and 4:53.72. Junior Kate Durr also earned team points by finishing fourth in the high jump as she cleared 1.49 meters (4 feet, 10 1/2 inches).


ITHACA
Freshman Emma Boyd raced to a seventh-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:55.24 and the Bombers' 4x800 team placed seventh in 10:38.72. The team was comprised of freshman Abrianna D'Onofrio, juniorAnastasia Diamond, senior Shannon Meehan and freshman Megan Weaver.


HOUGHTON
Strong performances from Alyssa Figueroa, Leah Williams, Andrea Melhorn and Joanna Friesen sparked the Houghton women's track team at the University of Rochester in their first outdoor meet of the season Sunday.

Figueroa finished fourth in the triple jump (10.81 meters) and fifth in the 100 meters (13.07). Friesen was seventh in the 800 meters (2:21.04). Williams ran to a fourth place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase (12:09.27). Melhorn was sixth in the discus (35.88) and eighth in the hammer (39.29). The women's 4x100 meter relay finished sixth (51.34).
