Two Early Runs Give Medaille 2-0 Win over Highlanders
HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Medaille scored one run in each of the first two innings and shut down the Houghton hitters in a 2-0 win over the host Highlanders in baseball action on Tuesday.
The Mavericks got a double and a single before grounding into a double play that scored their first run in the top of the first. After Houghton went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning, Medaille took advantage of two Houghton errors in the top of the second to get their second run.
Houghton starter
Edward Monthie (Albany, NY, Christian Brothers Academy) went six innings, and despite allowing just two runs on three hits, picked up the loss.
Kevin Cassar (Mississauga, ON, Briar Cliff University) pitched two innings of relief with one hit allowed, and
Seth Cornell (Almond, NY, Alfred-Almond) struck out the side in his one inning of work.
Enrico Sukhdeo (Georgetown, Guyana, Montreat College),
Garret Kirkpatrick (York, PA, Central York) and
Bryan Hodge (Thornton, CO, Northeastern Junior College) had the only Highlander hits on the evening.
Houghton (6-12) is back in action at Pitt-Bradford on Thursday, April 10 at 4 p.m.
