Pioneers Dominate SUNYIT in Women's Lacrosse Action
Utica, NY (4/9/14)- The Utica College women's lacrosse team cruised to a 19-2 victory over SUNYIT Wednesday evening. With four assists, junior
Morgan DuPont (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) became the College's all-time assist leader with 60 so far in her three-year career.
UC jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first half and never looked back as it picked up its seventh win of the season. Utica is now 7-3 on the year; just two wins shy of its program-best nine wins in a single season. The Pioneers are also a perfect 3-0 on the road this year.
Ten different players scored on the day for UC, including junior
Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) who netted a team-high five goals.
Courtney Wheeler (Ava, NY/Rome Free Academy), Rebecca Plunkeet,
Jackie Gould (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville), and
Colleen Dowling (Fairport, NY/Fairport) each had two goals, and freshmen
Amanda Chruscicki (Utica, NY/Whitesboro) and
Xiomara Rodriguez (Bay Shore, NY/Brentwood) each netted their first collegiate tallies in the win. Seniors
Vanessa Maines (Boxborough, MA/Acton-Boxborough Regional) and
Julia Primps (Ossining, NY/Ossining) and junior
Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) also scored for UC.
Erin Jacobson (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) and Tewasharake Barnes combined for three saves in the win.
The Pioneers return to action with an Empire 8 weekend road trip. UC takes on Alfred University Saturday at 1 p.m. before facing Nazareth College Sunday, also at 1 p.m.
