Ithaca Drops Regular-Season Finale At Brockport
BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College baseball team returned to action for the first time in nine days Saturday and dropped a 10-3 game at Brockport to conclude its regular season. Ithaca now awaits word on potential selection to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championships, whose field will be announced Sunday night, May 11. Ithaca's record stands at 26-10 overall. Brockport concluded its season with a 26-16 overall mark.
Matt Connolly doubled twice to lead the Ithaca offense in the game. The Bombers took a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the second inning. Connolly's first double of the game scored
Stephen Yanchus, who reached earlier in the inning on a double. Ithaca also had a leadoff single in that inning that was erased on a double-play grounder.
Brockport took the lead with three in the third, and broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning and led 9-1.
Ithaca added single runs in the fifth and seventh innings. In the fifth, Connolly doubled and scored on an RBI single from
John Stanley. In the seventh, a bases-loaded ground out by
Colby Gee brought
Luke Stark home from third.
John Prendergast started on the mound and took his first loss of the season to fall to 9-1 on the year. He allowed seven runs, all earned, in three and two-thirds innings. He issued one walk with no strikeouts, hit a batter and allowed six hits.
