Powerhouse Williams Beats Ithaca In NCAAs

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Ithaca College women's tennis team saw its 2013-14 season come to an end Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships. The six-time defending national champion Williams Ephs defeated Ithaca 5-0 in a regional hosted by Williams. Ithaca concluded its season with a 14-7 overall record, and made its eighth-consecutive trip to the national tournament, advancing to the second round for the third consecutive year.

Ithaca dropped three doubles matches, and then Williams closed out the match with 6-0, 6-0 wins at fifth and sixth singles.

It marked the final match in the illustrious career of Cristina Nunez, a graduate student who finishes her time at Ithaca as the all-time leader in singles, doubles and overall victories. She has a career record of 80-17 in singles, 66-28 in doubles and an overall record of 146-45. She is a three-time selection as Empire 8 Player of the Year, an eight-time all-conference First Team (four singles, four doubles) and was three-time MVP of the Empire 8 Championship (2009, 2010, 2012). She has been individually-ranked in singles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and was an ITA national tournament qualifier in 2013. Nunez has been an Empire 8 President's List Honoree with a 3.75 grade-point average.
