Ducks Sweep Top Honors; All-Conference Teams Announced

Stevens Institute of Technology swept the 2014 men's tennis awards. Sophomore Matthew Heinrich was named the Empire 8 Athletic Conference Player for the second straight season, freshman Michael Feldman was tabbed the Rookie of the Year and head coach Steve Gachko was named the Coach of the Year for the fifth consecutive season.

Heinrich, did not lose a conference match all season at first singles and first doubles with partner Antonio Perich. He led the Ducks this spring with 20 singles wins from the No. 1 position, and made history when he was selected to compete in the NCAA Individual Championships later this month. In doubles action, Heinrich and Perich compiled an 11-4 record at the No. 1 spot.

Feldman had an impactful rookie season with 17 wins in singles competition, including an 11-6 record from the No. 3 position. In doubles action, Feldman played primarily with Charles Drake and the duo compiled an 11-6 record primarily playing No. 2 in which they went 7-4.

Gachko guided the Ducks to their 40th straight Empire 8 victory this spring en-route to their fourth straight undefeated conference record and a fifth consecutive conference championship. Stevens earned the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament for their fifth straight appearance and seventh time overall. The Ducks defeated the University of Southern Maine, 6-0, in the first round of the NCAA Championship before falling to Amherst in the second round.
