Empire 8 track and field athletes competed on day one of the 2014 Division III ECAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The competition is being held at the Ned Harkness Track & Field and hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of Technology. 

Utica freshman Rayshawn Scott leaped to a fourth place finish in the men's triple jump with his school record breaking mark of 14.49 meters.  He won a tie breaker with a soar of 14.29 meters to earn sole place of fourth and garner the men's only five points of day one.

Nazareth sophomore Luis Rivera broke his own school record in the hammer throw for the fifth time this spring. Rivera has added nearly 30 feet to the school record since the start of the outdoor season. Thursday's toss of 50.75 meters equaled 166 feet, 6 inches and was good for ninth place in the competition. Sophomore Khiary Gayle also competed in the triple jump for Nazareth Thursday and finished in 27th place with a leap of 12.76 meters (41 feet, 10 1/2 inches).

Ithaca sophomore Sawyer Hitchcock was the runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a 9:26.97 finish.
 
The Bombers' 4x400 relay of juniors Matt FemiaMason Mann and Kevin Davis and senior Brennan Edmonds placed eighth with a finish of 3:21.81.

Also competing on the day was St. John Fisher sophomore Devin Cornelius who positioned himself to make a charge in day two currently in third place after five events.  Cornelius' day was highlighted by a second place finish in the 100 in a personal best 11.17 seconds, a second place finish in the high jump at 1.89 meters, only to close out the day on a high note with a third place mark in the 400 meter dash (51.24).

Athletes are back in action Friday morning for the final day of the ECAC Championships at RPI.  Friday's field events will start at 10 a.m. while the track events will kick off at 12 p.m.
