FULL RESULTS
For the third consecutive year, the nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College men's golf team placed in the top-ten after tying the University of La Verne for sixth place (+52) at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship in Greensboro, N.C. Schreiner University (+33) took home the trophy after holding off Oglethorpe University who finished five strokes back and in second place.
The sixth-place finish marks Fisher's best performance in the national tournament since the 2008 team captured third-place overall.
"It's always a great experience to compete against the nation's best, which Fisher is proud to be a part of" said head coach
Bob Simms. "I'm proud of the guys and how they competed to the very end."
After finishing out the remainder of round three earlier in the morning, which had been postponed due to poor weather conditions, the Cardinals looked to make a move up the leader board with the final 18 holes.
Junior
Chris Blyth, who began the day tied for third in the individual standings, was the only Cardinal to shoot under par before making the turn (-1) after birdying the 15th and 18th holes. Blyth would finish his final round at +4, which placed the Pittsford native in a tie for 12th place overall.
Thad Wier finished tied for 31st after a final round 79, moving the senior to +14 overall for the 72-hole tournament.
Freshman
Hogan Cuny finished his first NCAA Championship in a tie for 40th place after a final round 79 bringing his overall score to +17, while
Ryan McGinnis moved up seven spots in the individual rankings, sharing 53rd place after wrapping up the championship at +20. The Chittenango native converted eight-straight pars to begin his final round en route to a +4 on the afternoon.
Senior
Joe Feeney finished in sole possession of 69th place after a final round 79 (+7).
The finish caps a remarkable year for Fisher. The Cardinals claimed four first-place finishes this season including the conference crown to go along with two second-place finishes and three third-places completions including the Jekyll Island Invitational, which featured numerous nationally-ranked programs.
