Taylor Hughes Named Second-Team IWLCA All-America
The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) has named the
All-American performers for the 2014 season. Senior
Taylor Hughes of the St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team has been selected to the Second-Team.
On the year, Hughes the reigning Empire 8 Player of the Year, totaled a team-high in both points (65) and goals (49). She also totaled 16 assists, 29 draw controls, and 16 caused turnovers on the year. The Watertown native closes out her career as the most decorated women's lacrosse player to ever wear the Cardinal colors, graduating as the all-time leader in goals (217), assists (87), and points (304).
As a freshman Hughes was named the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year and went on to earn first team honors the next three seasons. In just her second season Hughes set a school record for points (102) on 72 goals and 30 assists including being named the Empire 8 Championship MVP after notching four goals to propel Fisher to a 9-7 victory of top-seeded Ithaca. The Nursing major went on to earn All-Tournament honors in her junior and senior campaigns.
Fisher defeated top-seed Ithaca College in the Empire 8 Championship game to advance to the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship for the third consecutive season. The Cardinals fell 13-12 to No.13 York College in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament to finish out the 2014 season, 15-5.
