NFCA Division III All-American Teams

Louisville, Ky. (May 21, 2014) – Utica College senior third baseman Meghan Matan (Latham, NY/Shaker) was named the program's first-ever National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III All-American during the NCAA Championship banquet at the Harvey Convention Center in Tyler, Texas on Wednesday evening.  Matan was named to the All-American Third Team.

The NFCA Division III All-America softball teams were selected from the pool of players who earned All-Region First Team recognition by eight NCAA Division III head coaches representing the eight NCAA regions.

This past season she guided the Pioneers to the Empire 8 Conference Tournament semifinals after batting an Empire 8 Conference-best .481 (51-for-106) in 34 games played.  She tallied a team-best 51 hits to go along with 23 RBIs, 17 doubles and four home runs.  She also added 84 total bases, 31 runs scored and stole four bases while striking out just three times.  She also posted a .939 fielding percentage.

Matan, who was named the College's Greg Roberts Senior Student-Athlete Award winner last Wednesday, started all 120 games since joining the team as a sophomore and she holds the Empire 8 Conference single-season record for hits per game (1.74). She owns four school single-season records including hits per game, hits, doubles, and stolen bases. Her career batting average of .397 is third all-time at UC and she was a three-time Empire 8 All-Conference selection.  She was also recently selected as a 2014 NFCA All-Region First Team pick.  She helped guide the Pioneers to their first Empire 8 Conference regular season title in 2013 and the program's first appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

She helped lead the Pioneers to at least 22 wins in each of the last three seasons for a total of 78 victories over the course of her career.
