St. John Fisher College's Devin Cornelius set a new College record in the decathlon on Friday, totaling 6,548 points at the NCAA Division III Men's Track and Field Championship in Delaware, Ohio.   The sophomore placed 11th out of 20 individuals competing in the two-day event.  He was just one point shy of 10th and just 33 points shy of ninth place.

Cornelius became the first person to qualify for NCAAs in Fisher's three-year history of track and field.  Two months ago, he became Fisher's first qualifier for NCAAs in indoor track and field and finished 11th at NCAAs in the heptathlon as well.

Cornelius entered Friday in sixth place, but dropped to 13th place after the 110 hurdles and the discus, despite two of his best performances in the events.   He remained in 13th place after the javelin (despite his second-best career performance), but moved up to 12th after setting a new Fisher record in the pole vault at 4.20 meters.

He closed out the 10-event competition posting a time of 4:31 in the 1,500,marking his second-fastest time ever.

Over the 10 events,  Cornelius, who was the second-highest finishing underclassman, set new personal records in four of the 10 events (100, 400, pole vault and long jump).
