Five Selected to 2014 North-South All Star Game
Five seniors will represent the Empire 8 Sunday at the annual
North-South Senior all-star game, sponsored by the ntercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association. The game will take place at Cabrini College, in Radnor, PA. on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 2:00pm.
Taylor Hughes and Jill Zerrillo will play on behalf of the Cardinals. Hughes, the reigning Empire 8 Player of the Year, led Fisher in scoring this season with 49 goals and 16 assists. Her 65 points ranked third in the Empire 8, while her 134 shots this season was tops in the conference.
A two-time First-Team All-Region selection by the IWLCA, Hughes helped guide Fisher to 15 wins this season and 58 over her four year career as the Cardinals claimed three-straight Empire 8 titles in the process with Hughes being named to the conference's All-Tournament team each time including an MVP nod in her sophomore season.
The Watertown native will undoubtedly go down as one of the best to ever play for Fisher as she concludes her four-year career ranked first in points (304), goals scored (217) and assists (87), while ranking fifth in draw controls (121).
Zerrillo created one of the nation's top defensive fronts. She was often tasked with guarding some of the conference's top scoring threats and answered the call, forcing 19 turnovers on the season. Her 35 ground balls this season ranked second on the team, while she also contributed on the offensive end of the field scoring 12 goals.
Ithaca will also have two seniors in the game; Becky Guzzo and Anya Eckhardt.
Guzzo ended her career ranked fourth in both career and single-season assists. She dished out a team-best 33 this season improving her career tally to 69. She ranked third on the team with 43 points scoring 10 goals to go with her assist output. Guzzo had 14 ground balls this season.
Eckhardt helped anchor the Bomber defense that posted the 14th-best scoring defense in the nation – allowing just 7.39 goals per game. She picked up 30 ground balls, forced 15 turnovers and won seven draws. Eckhardt had one assist in 2014.
Nazareth's Tara Prosak has been a four-year starter as a goalie for the Golden Flyers, who finished 8-8 overall in 2014. She started all 16 games in 2014 and totaled 133 and ranked 17th nationally with a .512 save percentage. She also had a goals-against average of 8.66. For her career, Prosak won 31 games and ranks second all-tinme with 517 saves.
