Empire 8 track and field teams completed the second day of competition at the NYSCTC Championships, hosted by St. John Fisher.

ALFRED
Alfred University sophomore Gregory Matos won the 400-meter race in an ECAC-qualifying 49.36 seconds. Matos also scored in Saturday's 200-meter dash, placing eighth in 23.25 seconds as the Saxon men finished 11th in the championships.
 
Junior Lucas Marshall and freshman Jeffery Nunez  placed 11th (37.43 meters) and 14th (36.69), respectively, in the discus, while freshman Kevin Dixon was 12th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:19.24).

ITHACA
Ithaca recorded six ECAC marks on the day and placed in the top three for the 15th time in Ithaca's 28-year involvement with the conference. The Bombers had 16 individual and two relay All-NYSCTC finishes during day two of competition.

The Bombers set a Polisseni Track and Field Complex facility record in the 4x100-meter relay. Ithaca's team of junior Rashaad Barrett, sophomore Aaron Matthias and juniors Kevin Davis andTyler Curtis clocked an ECAC-good time of 42.33 to win the event.
 
Sophomore Sawyer Hitchcock won the 3,000 steeplechase in an ECAC-qualifying time of 9:25.49. Classmate Stephen Gomez placed fourth in 9:43.04.
 
Ithaca hit a pair of ECAC qualifiers in the high jump and another in the triple jump. SophomoreAndrew Brandt placed third in the high with a clear of 1.98 meters. Senior Brendan Wilkinsfollowed in sixth with a height of 1.93 meters. Sophomore De'Marquis Graves finished seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 13.56 meters.
 
The Bombers placed four in the 100 dash and three in the 200. Barrett paced Ithaca in the 100 with an ECAC-qualifying time of 11.01 to finish third. Matthias was fourth in 11.12, Davis sixth in 11.27 and Curtis seventh in 11.36. Curtis, Barrett and Davis placed fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 200 clocking times of 22.71, 22.79 and 22.84.
 
Junior Mason Mann crossed the finish line fourth in the 800 with a time of 1:56.02. SophomoreLarkin Bohanan placed eighth in 1:57.20.
 
Junior Matt Femia raced to a fifth-place finish of 50.94 in the 400 and senior Brennan Edmondsfinished fifth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 57.09.
 
Mann, sophomore Jordan Smith, Femia and Edmonds teamed together to close out track events with a fourth-place finish of 3:24.02 in the 4x400 relay.

NAZARETH
Jake Lafaver claimed second in the 800-meter run in 1:53.9 as he was edged by .14 seconds by Cobleskill's Evan Quinones. Zack Lafaver was 13th with a time of 1:59.02, and he was followed by freshmen Jacob Murray (2:02.2) and Matt Battaglia (2:03.23). In addition to the points from Jake Lafaver, Brandon Vuolo and Luis Rivera also scored two points apiece for the Golden Flyers. Vuolo was seventh in the shot put with a throw of 13.52 meters (44 ft., 4 1/4 in.), and Rivera was seventh in the discus with a school-record mark of 39.81 meters (130 ft., 7 1/3 in.).

The men's team entered with points from the 4x800-meter relay and Rivera's hammer throw. The foursome of Fedrizzi, Zack Lafaver, Jake Lafaver, and Murray earned eight team points with a second-place time of 8:04.29. Rivera, meanwhile, earned six team points with a hammer throw of 49.65 meters (162 feet, 10 3/4 inches), about four inches short of the school record he set last weekend at the University of Rochester.

Sophomore Khiary Gayle added a 12th-place finish in the triple jump (12.8 m.; 42 ft.), and Fedrizzi was 19th in the 1500 (4:16.72).

ST. JOHN FISHER
Malcolm Fowler came out ahead of the rest of the pack in the triple jump with a leap of 12.70 meters.

Eric Riley continued to rewrite the record book for Fisher jumping to a 2.03 meter height in the high jump, identical to the top-finisher Reyshawn Scott from Utica College.  Riley's previous school-record was 1.98 meters.

In other field action, Kyle Koehler broke his own record in the shot put with a toss of 15.16 meters, nearly claiming the top spot for Fisher claiming a second place finish.

In the mid-afternoon, Will Sterriker blazed to an ECAC qualifying time of 55.88 in the 110-meter hurdles, a new program record, to earn a third place finish and earn six points for the Cardinals.

Chris Wehner put out his best performance of the season in the 110-meter hurdles sprinting to a third place finish in a time of 15.39 seconds, just .1 off his record set last season.

Kyle Blessing started off the morning for the Cardinals earning third place in the discus throw with a toss of 43.29 meters.

After clocking the second best time in the time in the prelims on Friday, Joe D'Agostino slipped one spot in the finals to earn a third place finish in the 200 meter dash in a time of 22.45. 

Fisher's 4 x 100 meter relay squad of  D'Agostino, Wehner, Devin Cornelius and James Koch clocked the best time of the season in 43.51 seconds good for a fifth place finish.

UTICA
Seniors Corey Zlatniski and Shane Ruffing posted victories.  Zlatniski posted another win in the 1,500 meter run with a clock of 3.57.31 while Ruffing won the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.12, both combing for ten points for UC.

Freshman jumper Rayshawn Scott continued his impressive first-year campaign totaling 18 points for Utica in both if his respective events. He leaped to a first place finish in the high jump for ten points posting a 2.03 and also placed second in the triple with a mark of 14.18.  Rob Tutein tallied 4.50 points in the high jump with a soar of 1.93, placing fifth.

Throwers Andrew Russell and Sam Bonk combined for eight points in the discus as Russell placed fourth with a throw of 42.49 and Bonk sixth with a hurl of 40.06 meters.
