Stevens Records 31 Top Seven Showings at Vassar

RESULTS
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (May 2, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's outdoor track & field program competed at the Vassar College Twilight Meet on Friday afternoon and notched 31 top seven performances overall. The meet was non-scoring and consisted of runners throughout all NCAA Divisions as well as unattached participants.
Junior
Robert Pinto (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded two first place finishes in the high jump and long jump events. Pinto cleared 1.95 meters to take the high jump and measured out 6.73 meters in the long jump.
Freshman
Andre Spencer (Morristown, N.J.) posted a mark of 3.05 meters in the pole vault to prevail in that event, while junior
Nicholas Chapel (Westfield, N.J.) also came in first overall in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 35:24.49.
Senior
Michael Cahill (Clark, N.J.) competed in the 5,000-meter run and took second overall with a time of 15:18.65, as did freshman
Owen Burke (Elizabeth, N.J.) in the javelin with a throw of 48.52 meters.
The team of Pinto, senior
Walter Goodwin (Floral Park, N.Y.), sophomore
Tom Halloran (Oakland, N.J.) and freshman
Brian Fratto (Winchester, Mass.) ran a time of 44.17 seconds in the 4x100-meter relay to finish in the runner-up position.
Freshman
Neil Forrester (Ramsey, N.J.) set a school record in the discus with a throw of 42.35 meters which took third overall. Forrester also placed third in the shot put with a mark of 12:06 meters.
Other Ducks that were third place finishes were junior
David Krier (South Brunswick, N.J.), sophomore
Kristopher Trautz (Newton, N.J.) and freshman
Michael Guglielmo (West Nyack, N.Y.). Krier recorded a mark of 44.28 meters in the javelin, Trautz ran a time of 36:34.19 in the 10K and Guglielmo posted a time of 10:35.42 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Putting together fourth place showings for Stevens were Goodwin in the 200-meter dash (23.93 seconds), Halloran in the 400-meter dash (52.52 seconds), senior
Joel Oquendo (North Bergen, N.J.) in the hammer (37.52 meters), freshman
Guido Porcelli (Congers, N.Y.) in the discus (38.73 meters) and the 4x400-meter relay team of Guglielmo, senior
Louis Stengel (Vernon, N.J.), junior
Andrew Parlette (Clarskville, Md.) and freshman
Drew Knipfer (St. Joseph, Ill.) (3:45.08).
Stengel (1,500 – 4:06.53), Fratto (100 – 11.64 seconds), Oquendo (discus – 36.93 meters), junior
Kevin Barresi (Little Silver, N.J.) (steeplechase – 10:50.83) and freshman
Cody Yersin (Colts Neck, N.J.) (hammer – 37.31 meters) all placed fifth.
Forrester, Goodwin, Halloran, Yersin, sophomore
Nicholas Caruso (Wrightstown, N.J) and freshman
Paul Caplan (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) all came in sixth overall. Forrester in the hammer (31.93 meters), Goodwin in the 100 (11.75 seconds), Halloran in the 200 (24.26 seconds), Yersin in the shot put (10.80 meters), Caruso in the 400 (55.64 seconds) and Caplan in the javelin (41.60 meters).
Finally, senior
Benny Scotto (Washington, N.J.) came in seventh in the hammer and javelin with marks of 28.70 meters and 41.12 meters, respectively. Parlette clocked a time of 4:09.35 in the 1,500 to finish seventh as well.
