Ducks Advance In ECAC With 8-0 Win

WEEHAWKEN, N.J. (May 7, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology softball team pounded-out 15 hits in an 8-0 win over Brooklyn College Wednesday, advancing them in the ECAC tournament.
The loss ended Brooklyn's season at 25-15, while Stevens moved to 28-11. The Ducks will now travel to Richard Stockton College to play in the tournament semi-finals on Saturday against an opponent still to be determined.
Both teams traded zeroes in the first before Stevens built its lead in the second. Freshman
Emily Sellitti homered to center to lead off, then after freshman
Kelly Klewicki walked and stole second and third, senior
Stephanie Senkevich singled up the middle to extend the lead to two.
Senior pitcher
Kayla Berardi held the lead with a scoreless third, allowing Stevens to add to it in their half of the inning. With sophomore
Gavriella Risman-Jones on third, junior
Jamie DeGennaro ripped an RBI single to right. Freshman
Gina Schnecker pinch-ran, stole second, and later scored on a single off Klewicki's bat to give the Ducks a 4-0 lead.
Spitz followed with a triple for the second game in-a-row, before Senkevich capped the third-inning scoring with an RBI single to left.
Berardi pitched a scoreless fourth and fifth before Stevens added another run in the fifth off a Risman-Jones RBI single to center to give the Ducks an 7-0 lead. After a scoreless top of the sixth, Spitz ended the game with an RBI single to score Sellitti, in the bottom of the inning.
Berardi scattered two hits over six innings of work to earn her team-leading 17
th win of the season. Offensively, senior
Danielle DeFeo and Risman-Jones each chipped-in with three hits, while Spitz and Senkevich each drove-in two.
