What A Rush! Fisher Uses Two-Out Rally To Win 30th Game Of The Year
The St. John Fisher College baseball program improved to 30-11 on the year, as the Cardinals picked up an 8-3 win at Manhattanville College in the semifinals of the ECAC Division III Metro Championship.
With the win, Fisher advances to Saturday's championship game and will play either SUNY Purchase or FDU-Florham at 3 p.m. on Purchase's home field.
It is just the third time Fisher has won 30 or more games in a season in the program's history. The Fisher record for wins in a season is 31, set back in 2012 and 2010.
Senior
Brad Rush led the Cardinals, going 5-for-5 at the plate with two doubles and two RBI. He also scored one run. It was the first five-hit game of Rush's career and his fifth consecutive multi-hit game.
All eight of Fisher's runs came with two outs in the fifth inning.
Mike Roman broke a scoreless tie with an RBI single.
Chris Roeder, who finished the day with three hits, then singled to score
Calvin Woolhiser.
Tim Coykendall delivered a two-run double, scoring Roman and Roeder, to put Fisher 4-0. After back-to-back walks,
Mike Fahy reached on fielder error, scoring two runs, while Rush, who singled to start the rally, drove in Fisher's final two runs.
Freshman
Marc Iseneker, who was named as the Empire 8 Conference's Rookie of the Year, allowed two earned runs over five innings to earn the win.
With bases-loaded and one out,
Ryan Smith closed the door on the Valiants, striking out the final game's final two batters.
