AMHERST, Mass. (May 9, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team seized early control of their NCAA Tournament first-round match against the University of Southern Maine en-route to a 6-0 sweep.

The loss is the first since mid-March for Southern Maine (14-4) as Stevens (14-11) has earned a second-round match-up against No. 4 Amherst College. Amherst ended Stevens' season last year with a 5-1 win in the third round.

Stevens built a commanding 3-0 lead early thanks to a doubles sweep. Sophomore Matthew Heinrich and freshman Antonio Perich started the winning with an 8-1 win at No. 1 over sophomore Tyler Adams and junior Scott Gagne, before Stevens extended the lead with an 8-4 win at No. 3 for freshmen Charles Drake and Michael Feldman over seniors Corey Dyke and Chris Ross.

After going back-and-forth early-on at No. 2, sophomores Ben Foran and Tyler Tisdale turned a 5-4 lead into an 8-4 win over sophomore Max Wilkey and freshman Kyle Curley to give the Ducks their twelfth doubles sweep of the season.

Foran continued the momentum once the singles matches started with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Wilkey before Feldman ended the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 over Curley. Perich finished his 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 simultaneously, giving Stevens its sixth point of the match.

Stevens is making an appearance in the second-round for the fifth year in-a-row, and has now made it each of the last six times it's been in the NCAA Tournament.

Tomorrow's match will start at 10 a.m., and a recap and results will be posted to stevensducks.com soon after. To follow the team directly during the match, follow @Ducks_Tennis or @stevensducks on Twitter.
