ONEONTA, NY – On June 25, Hartwick College Director of Athletics Dr. Kim Fierke announced that two-year assistant Brian Gordon has been named Head Coach of the Hartwick Women's Soccer Program. Gordon replaces Matt Verni, who accepted an assistant position with Hartwick Hall of Famer Ian McIntyre with the Syracuse University men's program.

Gordon has helped Hartwick Women's Soccer to consecutive postseason appearances after a nine-year drought. He becomes just the eighth head coach in the program's 34-year history.

"Brian clearly emerged as the top candidate in our national search," said Dr. Fierke. His enthusiasm and desire to lead Hartwick women's soccer will propel this team forward in the competitive Empire 8 Conference. He will be a great addition to the College."

In his first season with the Hartwick Women's Soccer Team in 2012, Gordon helped the Hawks to an 8-8-2 record and a spot in the ECAC Tournament. The Hawks followed it up last year with an 8-8-3 mark and a repeat berth in the ECAC's. The two seasons marked the first back-to-back .500 or better seasons since the 1995 and 1996 campaigns.

Gordon is a former member of the Hartwick Men's Soccer Team. The Erskine, Scotland native played for 'Wick from 2008-2009. He was named to the 2009 Mayor's Cup All-Tournament Team.

"I would really like to take the opportunity to thank Dr. Fierke and Dr. Meg Nowak for allowing me this great opportunity to lead the women's soccer program at Hartwick," stated Gordon. "Hartwick soccer is really close to my heart and it is a great honor to be chosen to lead the program. I intend to build on the great foundation left by Matt and I'm really excited to get working with the quality returning and incoming players this fall."

From 2006-2008, Gordon was a member of the University of Albany's Men's Soccer Team. In 2006 he was named to the America East All-Tournament Team and Rookie Team. In 2007, he was named to the VCU Nike Classic and Colgate Adidas Classic All-Tournament Teams.

Back in Scotland, he played with St. Mirren Football Club from 2002-2005. He also played for East Stirlingshire Football Club from 2005-06 and Renfrew FC from 2010-2012.

Prior to returning to Oyaron Hill, Gordon was the head coach of the Massachusetts Premier Soccer Knights U17 Premier and U10 Elite head coach. He was also an intern assistant at Hartwick in 2010.

Gordon graduated Cum Laude from Hartwick in May 2010 with a bachelor's degree in History. This past summer, he earned his NSCAA National Diploma.

"I'm excited to add to the growth of our improving program and will look for us to compete and hopefully achieve a playoff spot in the Empire 8 this coming fall," added Gordon. "I look forward to testing ourselves against some very good teams in our non-conference schedule and I believe that it will set us up well for conference play."
