Elmira College to Add Men’s Cross Country in 2015 Season
Elmira, NY -- President Ron Champagne announced that the Elmira College Board of Trustees recently approved a plan to add men's cross country as an intercollegiate sport in the 2015-16 academic year. With the addition of men's cross country, Elmira College will sponsor 21 varsity programs, including 12 for women and nine for men.
"Providing a wide range of competitive opportunities for our students is important" said Pat Thompson, Vice President of Athletics. "Adding men's cross country seemed like a natural progression after introducing the women's premier season this fall."
Men's cross country is the most recent sport to be added by Elmira as both women's cross country and baseball were added in the spring of 2013 and will compete in their inaugural seasons during the 2014-15 academic year. In total, Elmira has added four new sports over the last five years with men's volleyball getting their start during the 2010-11 academic year.
Similar to the majority of Elmira's sports, EC will compete in the Empire 8 Conference, giving the conference nine men's cross country members.
