Alfred University Names New Women’s Lacrosse Coach
ALFRED, NY — Alfred University Director of Athletics
Paul Vecchio announces the appointment of
Erynn Anderson as the Saxons' new head women's lacrosse coach.
Anderson comes to Alfred from Division I St. Bonaventure University, where she served the 2014 season as an assistant coach. She replaces Samantha Patton, who resigned this spring after seven seasons at the Saxons' helm.
Jessica Hurlbut, head athletic trainer at Alfred University and a former player at AU, served as interim head coach in 2014.
"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity that
Paul Vecchio and Alfred University have given me to be the next head women's lacrosse coach," Anderson commented. "I am excited about the future of the program and thrilled to come in and continue to make Alfred's women's lacrosse a contender in the Empire 8 Conference as well as the NCAA. I look forward to working with the faculty, staff and student-athletes and cannot wait to get started."
Anderson has experience as a head coach at the collegiate level, having led three Division III programs prior to her appointment at St. Bonaventure. She was instrumental in starting two intercollegiate varsity programs at two D-III schools.
She began her head coaching career at SUNY Morrisville, where she served one season (2008) as head coach in Morrisville's first year of intercollegiate women's lacrosse. She left Morrisville for SUNY Maritime, where she was head coach for two seasons (2009 and 2010) before leaving for SUNY-IT, where she started that school's intercollegiate varsity team and served as head coach for two years (2012 and 2013).
"I am excited to be able to hire a coach with Erynn's depth of coaching and recruiting experience to direct our women's lacrosse program," Vecchio commented. "Erynn has extensive head coaching experience, has actively recruited the lacrosse-rich region of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states, has outstanding club experience and is an outstanding communicator with tremendous passion for lacrosse. I am looking forward to seeing the growth in our program that I have no doubt Erynn will facilitate as our head coach."
Anderson, a native of Baldwinsville, NY, played three years on the women's lacrosse team at SUNY Fredonia, from 2003-05, earning a bachelor's degree in English in December 2004. After concluding her playing career, she ranked among the Blue Devils' career leaders in goals, assists and points. She served as a graduate assist coach at Fredonia for two seasons (2006 and 2007), earning a master's degree in English in 2007.
