HOUGHTON SHORT COURSE
The Nazareth women's cross country teams traveled to Houghton on Friday and won the Houghton Highlander Short Course Invitational. The Golden Flyers won the meet by two points over St. John Fisher.

ughman, a sophomore on the Alfred University women's cross country team, won the season-opening race on the two-mile course with a time of 11:57. 

Nazareth junior Gabrielle LeBihan and sophomore Emily Thompson took second and third place, respectively. 

The St. John Fisher College women's cross country team placed four runners in the top 10 and took second place overall at the 2014 Houghton College Short Course Invitational. Sophomore Sammy VanGee was Fisher's top finisher, placing fifth overall with a time of 12:23.4 for the 3,200-meter race. Kaitlin Shippy was right behind her and finished in seventh at 12:30.6.

Joanna Friesen finished fourth in the women's race with the time of 12:14.00 to pace the HIghlanders to a third place team finish.

 
HARTWICK at Albright
'Wick's cross country teams performed well in their season openers on Friday night in the Albright College Lights Out Invitational in Reading, PA. The women were fourth out of seven teams.
             
The women's race kicked off the night's festivities with senior Monica Prager (Salisbury Mills, NY/Washingtonville)and junior Tricia Phillips (Williamson, NY/Williamson) securing the Hawks' top two finishes. Prager finished the 4K in 16:07, good enough for 29th place overall. Phillips was just 15 seconds behind in 33rd with a time of 16:42.
           
Freshman Elsa Bock (Shelburne, VT/Champlain Valley Union), who was competing in her first collegiate meet, placed 35th covering the course in 16:54.
           
The Hawks faced a difficult field with both UConn and Dickinson taking part. The Huskies compete at the Division I level and Dickinson finished 15th at the NCAA Division III Championships last season. The two teams combined for the top 21 finishers in the race.
           
Alvernia would finish in third place with 105 points, just 21 points in front of the Hawks. Hartwick topped Albright (146), Cabrini (153) and Rosemont (178) on the night.


STEVENS Two-Miler
The Stevens Institute of Technology women's cross country team opened 2014 with a dual meet against SUNY New Paltz in the Stevens Two-Miler on Friday at Weehawken Waterfront Park. New Paltz scored 18 points as a team, while Stevens tallied 37.

Sophomore Kathleen Kalbian (Cheshire, Conn.) paced the Ducks in fourth overall with a time of 11:52.28 and missed third in the race by just two seconds. Junior Kate Moyer (Long Valley, N.J.) followed close behind in sixth with a time of 11:58.79, while sophomore Kaela Earrusso (Sparta, N.J.) closed out the top 10 in ninth with a performance of 12:30.88.

Senior Christine Hecker (South Hampton, N.J.) closed out the meet with a time of 12:47.34 to talk 11th overall and freshman Lauren Logan (Kensington, Md.) completed the course in 12:54.52 to take 13th.

Freshman Kiera Sheridan (Mahopac, N.Y.) wrapped out Stevens' top sixth in 15th with a time of 13:09.20.

Twenty-five runners participated in Friday's race.
