ST. JOHN FISHER 4, Albright 2
Stacie Skidmore
scored three goals and the St. John Fisher College field hockey squad garnered a 4-2, come-from-behind over Albright College on Saturday at the Susquehanna Tournament.   The Cardinals first win of the season was also the first victory for head coach Victoria Warzeski at Fisher.

The Lions struck first in the game just 6:21 into the contest off a redirected shot in front of the net.  However, it would not take long for the Cardinals to even up the score as three minutes later as Skidmore connected with Alexis Zakala for her second goal of the season.

The score would remain 1-1 until Zakala returned the favor to Skidmore at the 19 minute mark in the first half to put the Cardinals up for good.   That goal started Skidmore's three goal spurt in just over  a five minute span to give Fisher a 4-1 cushion.  Skidmore found the back of the net on an unassisted goal for her second of the game, followed up by her third of the day off an assist from Elizabeth Cusack at the 24:24 mark of the first half.

Fisher took a 4-1 lead into the break and held that lead until late in the game when the Lions converted a penalty stroke goal to round out the scoring.

Danielle Famolaro stopped five shots in net for the Cardinals.

UTICA 5, ST. LAWRENCE 1
The Utica College field hockey team picked up where it left off last season as it cruised to a 5-1 victory against St. Lawrence University at the Oneonta State Invitational Saturday afternoon.  Senior All-American Hannah Mackey (Locke, NY/Moravia Central) led the way with three goals for UC.

The Pioneers jumped out to a four-goal lead in the first half behind Mackey's three tallies as well as a goal from classmate Chasity Eckert (Afton, NY/Afton Central).  Eckert andAlaina Stojkovski (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) also added one assist each on the day.  Senior Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) scored the lone Utica goal in the second half, before St. Lawrence's Olivia White found the back of the net in the final seven minutes to spoil the shutout.

Junior Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) made four saves and did not allow a goal in nearly 54 minutes of work, while freshman Samantha Whitehouse(Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) closed out the afternoon.  Kim Haab and Julia Hudson combined for seven saves.  Mackey is now five points behind Steele-Norton's school record of 130 career points.

NAZARETH 2, BROCKPORT 0
Nazareth's women's field hockey team opened the 2014 campaign with a 2-0 non-conference victory over host Brockport on Saturday afternoon. Senior Sibongile Chisi put the Golden Flyers on the board in the opening minutes of regulation, and junior Gabrielle DiSanto added an insurance goal with about 10 minutes remaining in the contest. Less than 10 minutes into the second half, senior Shannon Winney thwarted a penalty stroke opportunity by Nickole Morgan to preserve Nazareth's initial one-goal lead. Saturday's contest was the season-opener for both teams.

Chisi, who scored a team-high six goals during the 2013 season, needed only 6:08 to score her first goal of 2014. Chisi collected a rebound and converted the scoring chance to provide Nazareth with the early advantage. Junior Maggie Muzio was credited with the assist. Each defensive unit prevented any additional scoring throughout the remainder of the first half and nearly 25 minutes into the second half. DiSanto ended the drought at the 59:04 mark to add an insurance goal with 10:56 to play in regulation. DiSanto slapped the ball out of midair and into the Golden Eagles goal for her first-career goal.

On the defensive end of the field, Winney stymied Brockport's attack with 11 saves, including eight in the second half to protect Nazareth's lead. It was Winney's third-career shutout. The Golden Flyers held the Golden Eagles to only three shots in the opening half before Brockport increased its pressure in the second 35 minutes.

Muzio and junior Catherine Willard each tallied five total shots, including three shots on goal, for Nazareth's offensive attack. Lindsay Farrell recorded 11 saves for Brockport. Both teams finished with 17 total shots while the Golden Eagles had a 6-5 edge in corners.

Lass made nine saves in the opening frame, sending the game to the half tied at 0-0. Washington College broke through the Bomber defense twice in the second frame, scoring both goals in a six-minute span (61:07 and 66:51).

The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team dropped a 6-1 decision at No. 11 Messiah College Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, Stevens falls to 2-0 on the young season, while Messiah improves to 1-0.

The Stevens defense was able to hang tough in the early going, with the hosts getting on the board in the 12th minute and again at 16:55. Messiah scored once more before the end of the opening period to take a 3-0 advantage into the intermission.

Messiah continued to apply pressure, scoring 6:03 into the second half when freshman forward Carissa Gehman (Holtwood, Pa.) netted her second of the day to make it 4-0.

After Messiah carded its fifth goal, Stevens held the Falcons scoreless for the next 19:37 of action before getting on the board when freshman forward Victoria Alvarez (Pine Beach, N.J.) pocketed the first goal of her young career.
