AU Wins Season Opener

The Alfred University women's tennis team scored an 8-1 Empire 8 Conference win over host Houghton College in the 2014 season opener for both teams.
AU (1-0, 1-0 Empire 8) swept the three doubles matches. Sophomore
Rachel Cook (Youngstown, OH/Laurel Springs) and junior
Emma Jackson (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) won first doubles, 8-6; seniors
Brennan Ferguson (Destrechan, LA/Ursuline) and
Emily Eisenberg (Oyster Bay, NY/Oyster Bay) took second doubles, 8-1; and senior
Betsy Clark (Webster, NY/Bishop Kearney) and freshman
Sarah Grace (Rochester, NY/Penfield) won third doubles, 8-2.
The Saxons won five of six singles matches. Ferguson rallied to win first singles (0-6, 6-4, 6-4; Cook won second singles, 6-2, 6-1; Eisenberg won took third singles, 6-1, 6-2; junior
Kallie Clapper (Conklin, NY/Susquehanna Valley) won fifth singles, 6-3, 6-2; and freshman
Danielle Hickin (Endicott, NY/Maine-Endwell) won sixth singles, 6-2, 6-7, 10-7.

The St. John Fisher College women's tennis team lost its first match of the 2014-15 season, as the Cardinals dropped a 9-0 decision at SUNY Brockport.
Fisher's best shot at a point came at first doubles with seniors
Sania Zaki and Catie Nonemacher losing 9-8 (7-5).
