Elmira, NY -- Pat Thompson, Elmira College Vice President of Athletics, announced the appointment of
Callie Black '05 as head men's and women's cross country coach. Black will serve as the program's first head coach as the women's cross country team competes in their inaugural season in the fall of 2014 and the men in the fall of 2015.
Black is no stranger to Elmira College as she was a 2005 graduate, competing in both field hockey and softball during her four years as a Soaring Eagle. She also served as an assistant coach of the EC Softball team from 2005-07 while earning a master's degree in General Education.
"I am excited to return to Elmira College as the head coach of a new program" stated Black. "I look forward to coaching the women's cross country team this fall. I am also eager to begin the process of recruiting men for the inaugural men's cross country season in the fall of 2015. I have developed a passion for running and the sport of cross country and am happy that Pat Thompson has provided the opportunity for me to be a part of the Soaring Eagles' cross country program."
Along with her collegiate softball coaching experience, Black also has four years of cross country coaching experience at the high school level. She was on the coaching staff at both Watkins Glen and Thomas A Edison school districts over the last four years.
