Ithaca Beats Elmira; Utica Suffers Defeat

ITHACA 7, ELMIRA 2 The Ithaca College women's tennis team remained unbeaten on the season with a 7-2 win over Elmira in an Empire 8 dual match on Wednesday at the Murray Athletic Center. Ithaca won two of three doubles matches and five of six singles matches.
 
Haley Kusak and Carly Siegel were 8-5 winners at first doubles and then went on to post straight-set wins at the top-two singles positions. Kusak won 6-3, 6-3 at first singles and Siegel won 6-2, 6-3 at second singles. Ithaca also picked up double-victories from Allison Vizgaitis and Alyssa Steinweis. That duo won 8-3 at second doubles and also in singles play. Vizgaitis was a 6-3, 6-4 victor at third singles and Steinweis won 6-3, 6-1 at fourth singles.
 
Ithaca's final victory was a 6-4, 6-4 win at fifth singles for Kelly Fishback.

Wells 7, UTICA 2 (Box Score
The Utica College women's tennis team dropped its home-opener Wednesday, 7-2, to non-conference opponent Wells College.  Sophomore Anastasia Fitzpatrick and junior Doni Look guided the Pioneers with their only two points of the afternoon.

Fitzpatrick downed Laura Webb in the number three spot by scores of 6-4 and 6-2 while Look battled Nicole Sanborn in the fourth spot winning in three frames (6-3, 4-6, 7-5). The Pioneer duo partnered up in doubles competition but fell short, 9-7.

Junior Rose Zaloom and freshman Monica Johnson teamed up in doubles however lost 9-7 in the first match of team play.
