Pioneers Sweep SUNYIT; Fisher Wins in Five
UTICA 3, SUNYIT 1
The Utica College volleyball team picked up its first win against cross-town rival, SUNYIT in over two years as it downed the Wildcats 3-0 Wednesday evening at the Harold T. Clark Athletic Center. The Pioneers won 26-24, 27-25, 25-23.
The Pioneers came from behind in every set to earn the victory. In game one, UC faced a 24-22 deficit before rallying to win 26-24. In game two, Utica was down 23-22 and won 27-25. In the third and final game, the Pioneers were down 20-17, but came back to take the set 25-23.
Sophomore
Brandi Blaszak had a game-high 14 kills and added five digs. Freshman
Alaina Wickwire tallied ten kills and ten digs, while
Briona Enny had a team-best 11 digs and
Lora Allen collected 27 assists.
Chelsea Lauria and
Alexis Lyon each chipped in with ten digs apiece.
ST. JOHN FISHER 3, Oswego 0
The St. John Fisher College volleyball program won the first, third and fifth sets to earn a 3-2 win at SUNY Oswego on Wednesday night. The victory marks Fisher's fourth win in the last five matches, improving the team's record to 4-5 on the year.
Fisher won the opening set 25-22, but Oswego answered with a 25-22 victory in the second set. The Cardinals jumped out to 2-1 lead with a 25-20 win in the third, but Oswego responded yet again, winning the fourth set, 25-20.
With the match tied at 5s in the fifth and final set, Fisher's
Erin Crandall served seven straight points, including two aces, to put the Cardinals in control at 12-5. Fisher would go on to win the deciding game, 15-8.
Brooke Meader led Fisher on the day with 19 assists, 14 digs and four aces. Freshman
Madison Karwas tallied 13 digs and 10 kills, while classmate
Katie Mazierski totaled nine digs.
Senior
Paige Willson chipped in with nine kills, while
Erica Stickler dished out 12 assists.
Pitt-Bradford 3, ALFRED 0
Visiting Pitt-Bradford beat Alfred University, 3-0, in a non-conference women's volleyball matchup Wednesday evening in the McLane Center.
Pitt-Bradford (4-6) won by scores of 25-12, 25-14 and 25-12. With the loss, AU falls to 2-6 on the year.
Freshman
Chelsea Pietrzykowski led Alfred with four kills, 10 digs and a block, while senior
Taylor Kiernan had 18 digs.
Sophomore
Mary Lou Patnaude had two kills, nine digs and a block; freshman
Aubrey Totsline had 12 assists; and freshman
Heather D'Andrea had two kills and 15 digs.
