Golden Flyers Lone Winner on Saturday

Nazareth defeated visiting Clarkson with a score of 3-1 in a non-conference women's soccer match Saturday afternoon. Graduate student

Nazareth improves to a 5-1 overall record and Clarkson drops to 2-3 overall.
The Golden Flyers scored their first goal with 14:27 minutes of play remaining in the first half off a corner kick taken by junior
Courtney Malia. Malia's kick directed straight toward senior
Christine Belding for a header that put the ball in the back of the net. Only 1:33 minutes later, Nazareth's second goal was scored by senior
Tori Ryan off a rebound from junior
Danielle Wilkin's shot that forced a diving save from Clarkson's goalie. The Golden Flyers maintained their two-goal lead through the end of the first half.
Sixteen minutes into the second half, Nazareth improved to a three-goal lead over Clarkson. Sophomore
Michaela Soules passed the ball back from inside the penalty box to freshman
Paige Sullivan who took the long shot from outside the eighteen box, scoring her first career goal for the Golden Flyers.
With just over five minutes remaining in regulation time, a loose ball deflected off a Nazareth defender was gathered by Clarkson's Nikki Craft at the top of the box who took the shot that found its way in the back of the net.
The Golden Flyers finished with a 17-7 advantage in shots, and Dunphy tallied two saves to earn the victory. Clarkson's goalie, Kim Kenline earned a total of 7 saves. Nazareth ended with a 9-0 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
Union 1, ST. JOHN FISHER 0
The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team faced its second ranked opponent in a row falling 1-0 against No. 16 ranked Union College Saturday at Growney Stadium.
With the loss Fisher moves to 1-5 overall, while Union remains undefeated at 5-0.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the first half. Fisher had a quality scoring chance in the 21
st minute when
Jackie Romano found
Molly Beaton at the top of the six yard box, whose shot went just wide of the net.
The Cardinals had another dangerous scoring opportunity in the 33
rd minute as
Nicolette Nigro took a long shot that rolled to
Carly Finn in front of the net. Finn tapped it by the goalkeeper but a Union defender cleared the shot off the line before it went into the goal.
The Dutchwomen broke the scoreless tie less than 15 minutes into the second half as Whitney Bickford collected a loose ball on the backside and slotted it into the far post.
Fisher kept pushing for the equalizer, however the Dutchwomen were up for the challenge. Union's goalkeeper came up huge in the 69
th minute pushing aside a strong shot from Beaton.
Brooke Seavitt registered six saves in net for Fisher.
St. Lawrence 2, ELMIRA 0
The Elmira College women's soccer team could not overcome a two-goal halftime deficit, falling to St. Lawrence University, 2-0 Saturday afternoon. EC was outshot 27-6, with 15 of the Saints' shots being on target.
Gabe Carmona '18 kept the game within reach for Elmira, making 13 saves in the loss.
Unlike the previous few games, EC was the team to have its chances early in the game as crisp passing and good decision-making helped the Purple and Gold march down the field and apply offensive pressure on several occasions. Elmira had a pair of shots, the first from
Danielle Fournier '15 nearly nine minutes into the game and the second from
Mikayla Gowett '17 just over a minute later, turned away by St. Lawrence keeper Kelsey West, keeping the game 0-0.
From the 10:26 mark on, EC was outshot 13-1 as most of the final 35 minutes was played in Elmira's defensive half. The Saints were able to get two scores on the board, one in the 26th minute and the other in the 40th minute to take a 2-0 lead into the break.
St. Lawrence maintained their offensive pressure in the second half, but EC responded as the women looked to get back in the game. The Soaring Eagles put together a few promising runs, but the Saints defense stood tall, only allowing for Elmira to put one shot on target in the second half. No shots found the back of the net in the final 45 minutes, leading to EC's 2-0 defeat.
Potsdam 2, UTICA 0
The Utica College women's soccer team had its season-opening unbeaten streak snapped Saturday afternoon as it fell to visiting SUNY Potsdam 2-0 at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
The Pioneers were held scoreless for the first time this season as the Bears walked away with a 2-0 victory. Jess Sterns and Jaci Morr scored for Potsdam while Kaylen Van Wagner added an assist. Bri Tibeau had four saves in the win, while goal keeper Kelley Heimerle also made four saves, despite allowing two goals. Junior
Krystine Alvear led Utica with two shots on goal.
Geneseo 1, HOUGHTON 0
The host Blue Knights used an early goal to get past the Highlanders, 1-0, in women's soccer action Saturday.
Geneseo (6-0-0), ranked No. 23 in the latest NCAA DIII poll, scored in the ninth minute to hand Houghton their first loss.
Geneseo had an 11-6 advantage in shots.

Rochester 2, ITHACA 0
The No. 4 Ithaca College women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Rochester Saturday afternoon in the first game of the Upstate Collegiate Cup. The loss pushes the Bombers' record to 3-1-0 on the season.
Sophomore
Jess Demczar led the Bombers with four total shots and two shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper
Beth Coppolecchia made five saves on seven Rochester shots. Ithaca matched the Yellowjackets' shot count at 10, and generated six corner kicks to Rochester's one.
The Yellowjackets got on the board first with a goal at 16:55 of the opening half, giving Rochester the 1-0 lead. Both goalkeepers were perfect for the remainder of the frame, sending the game to halftime at 1-0 in favor of the Yellowjackets.
Rochester added an insurance marker in 70th minute to put them up by a score of 2-0. The Bombers pressured in the closing minutes, but were unable to sneak a goal past the Rochester keeper, giving the Yellowjackets the 2-0 victory.
The 2-0 decision sends the Bombers to the third place game, where they will battle Cortland. Rochester will play William Smith in the Upstate Collegiate Cup finals.
