Elmira Sweeps Utica; Hartwick Defeats Fisher; Stevens Stays Perfect

The Elmira College women's tennis team rebounded from their first loss of the season in impressive fashion, taking down Utica College, 9-0. In addition to their third sweep of the season, the Soaring Eagles lineup conceded six games across the nine matches.
EC could not have asked for a more perfect start to their match as all three doubles teams rolled to 8-0 victories. First off the court was the second doubles team of
Ellen Plowman'16 and
Kristi Chanda '17, followed by
Caitlin Dwyer '16 and
Megan Boisclair '15 at third doubles. For Dwyer, the doubles victory marked the first victory of her collegiate career. Finally,
Amy Schmidt '15 and
Kayla Fitzgerald '15 closed out the 3-0 start with their 8-0 win at first doubles.
It was much of the same in singles for the Purple and Gold as they rolled through the six matches for the 9-0 victory. Plowman and Chanda were first off the court with 6-0, 6-0 wins at third and fourth singles, respectively, followed by Fitzgerald, Schmidt, and Boisclair who each surrendered one game. Finally,
Stephanie Tock '16 wrapped-up EC's 9-0 win with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at fifth singles.
HARTWICK 6, St. John Fisher 3
The Hartwick Hawks (3-2, 2-2 E8) returned to winning form today, defeating the Cardinals from St. John Fisher (0-4, 0-3) by a 6-3 final score. The Hawks were able to stop a two-match skid and draw even in the conference at 2-2.
The Hawks swept doubles play on the afternoon, highlighted by an 8-3 win at first doubles by seniors
Nicole Schepisi and
Lauren Noyes.
Hartwick also took doubles at second and third.
Kristen Napolitano and
Kelly Napolitano combined for their fourth win of the season defeating their opponents, 8-5.
For the second consecutive conference match,
Michaela Finnegan and
Steph Luce teamed up for a win, this time holding on for an 8-6 victory.
Hartwick was able to secure the win through convincing triumphs at 3rd and 5th singles.
Kelly Napolitano continues her successful freshman campaign as she dropped only one game in a rout of her opponent, 6-1, 6-0.
Caitlin O'Brien also had a convincing win at 5th singles, winning over her opponent 6-1, 6-4.
Senior
Kristen Napolitano, for the second straight day, was pushed to a third-set tiebreaker. Napolitano was on the winning side today defeating her opponent 7-6 (7-2), 1-6, 10-7 in a closely contested match.
STEVENS 9, Alfred 0
The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team kept their undefeated season alive Sunday with a dominating 9-0 win over Alfred University in Hoboken.
The win brings the Stevens record to 6-0 while Alfred dropped to 2-3.
For the fourth time this season and the second day in a row, the Ducks started the match with a sweep of doubles. In her first action of 2014, senior
Jessica Bourque teamed with sophomore
Alexis Connor at No. 1 to cruise to an 8-0 win over juniors Rachel Cook and Emma Jackson. Sophomore
Allie Masciana and junior
Julia Guignard followed suit with an 8-0 win at No. 3 before senior
Danielle Stewart and freshman
Katrina Guido finished things off with an 8-4 win at No. 2.
Stewart and Guido are now 6-0 on the season at doubles.
Stevens kept the pressure on once singles started with Bourque's 6-1, 6-0 win over senior Brennan Ferguson at No. 1, followed by a 6-4, 6-1 win for Guignard at No. 3. Connor continued the streak with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5 before Masciana's 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 6.
Stewart and Guido finished off the sweep with 6-3, 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 wins at No. 2 and No 4 respectively.
