Elmira Takes Fourth at Oswego State Fall Invitational
Oswego, NY -- The Elmira College men's golf team had another strong showing in the early parts of the 2014-15 season as the Soaring Eagles captured fourth place at the Oswego State Fall Invitational. Today's tournament will serve as a tune-up for the upcoming Empire 8 Conference Tournament which will be held at the Yahnundasis Golf Club in New Hartford, NY.
Leading the way for the Soaring Eagles today was fourth-year talent
Evan Clarke '15 who turned in a two-over par 73, good enough to tie Clarke for second place. Clarke was just one stroke shy of today's leader, which would have forced a one-hole playoff. For Clarke, today's 73 marked the second time he has posted a score of 73 or lower.
Checking-in next for Elmira was
Jarryd ten Vaanholt '16 who finished in 13th place with a five-over par 76. His 76 ties the fourth-best round of his career and gives him four rounds this year with a 76 or under.
Troy Gordon '15 was only four strokes behind ten Vaanholt as the fourth-year golfer turned in a score of 80 which ties his season-best score and ties the fourth lowest round of his Elmira College career. Wrapping-up the tournament for Elmira was
Brandon Payne '17 and
Jake Lawson '16 who shot an 86 and 87, respectively.
The Elmira men will be back on the course this weekend when the Soaring Eagles travel to New Hartford, NY to compete in the first leg of the Empire 8 Conference Championships at Yahnundasis Golf Club. The first round of play will take place on Saturday, September 20th at 11:00 a.m.
