Utica Wins on the Road; Houghton & SJFC Lose by One
UTICA 2, SUNYIT 1
The Utica College women's soccer team got back on track Tuesday as it downed host SUNYIT 2-1 in non-conference action. Senior
Maddisen Melley scored her third game-winner of the year to lift the Pioneers.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute as Julia Jaiken netted an unassisted tally. Utica was finally able to find the back of the net at 69:18 when senior
Alana Fitzpatrick put in a pass from sophomore
Sara Kubera to even the score. Just over ten minutes later, Melley connected with freshman
Keri Berkowitz for the eventual game-winner.
Junior
Kelly Heimerle had five saves in the win, while her counterpart, Angela Bartlett, made nine stops. Berkowitz led the team with four shots on goal.
Fredonia 1, ST. JOHN FISHER 0
Host SUNY Fredonia scored the game's only goal in the 66th minute to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 win over the St. John Fisher College women's soccer team on Tuesday night.
With the loss, Fisher falls to 1-6 on the year. It has been a tough stretch for the Cardinals, losing each of the last four games by a 1-0 margin. In all four games, the opposition scored the game-winning goal in either the second half or in overtime.
For Fisher, senior goalie
Brooke Seavitt stopped six shots.
University of Pittsburgh-Bradford 3, HOUGHTON 2
The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford rallied from a two-goal deficit to knock off the Highlanders 3-2 in women's soccer action Tuesday night.
The win kept the Panthers perfect on the season with a 6-0 record.
The teams were scoreless for the first 67 minutes of the game, but combined for five goals over a nine minute span midway through the second half. The first two of those goals went to the Highlanders.
Stephany Ellison ripped a 30 yard free kick over the Panthers keeper for a 1-0 Highlanders lead in the 68th minute and scored again just over two minutes later. But the Panthers responded, scoring just one minute later. They tied the score three minutes later and found the game winner after another three minutes.
Houghton held a 19-11 advantage in shots.
Freshman goalkeeper Emma Arbuckle stopped five shots in net.
