The College at Brockport played host to a special pre-game luncheon on Sept. 19 in conjunction with the St. John Fisher representatives as the Courage Bowl X honorary coaches and cheerleaders were formally announced by Chairman and Founder of Camp Good Days and Special Times Gary Mervis.
Each year, Camp Good Days selects honorary coaches and cheerleaders, who are Camp Good Days campers that have been diagnosed with cancer and would normally not be allowed to experience a real football game.
The luncheon, hosted by College President Dr. John R. Halstead, included welcoming remarks from both Dr. Halstead and St. John Fisher President Dr. Donald Bain as well as both school's athletic directors and head coaches. The luncheon culminated with the announcement and introduction of the honorary coaches and cheerleaders for each team as children from Camp Good Days and Special Times are invited to take part in pregame and halftime festivities with each team.
Courage Bowl X will take place at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Bob Boozer Field at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium. Tickets to the game can be purchased by visiting the Brockport Athletics Website.
The Courage Bowl was established as an annual football game between the St. John Fisher College Cardinals and the University of Rochester Yellowjackets to benefit Camp Good Days and Special Times, an organization founded by Fisher assistant coach
Gary Mervis. Camp Good Days is a not-for-profit organization that provides summer camps and year-round events and activities for children, adults and families who have been touched by cancer and other life challenges.
