Fredonia turns tables on Nazareth

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Host Fredonia snapped an eight-match Nazareth winning streak in women's volleyball Thursday as the Blue Devils outlasted the Golden Flyers in a non-conference match. Fredonia won in five sets by scores of 21-25, 25-18, 25-21, 21-25, 15-10.
The victory avenged an earlier defeat and improved Fredonia's record to 8-6 overall. Nazareth is 8-5. The Golden Flyers defeated Fredonia in a three-set match at Nazareth on Sept. 5.
Senior
Kassandra Buseck had 10 kills, but also committed 12 hitting errors. Seniors
Maria Allocco and
Olivia Harrigan each had nine kills with six hitting errors each. Junior
Jennifer Hicks had six kills. Other statistical highlights included 29 assists and seven digs for sophomore
Madi Wickens, 26 digs for sophomore
Maureen Thayer and two aces and 11 digs for senior
Katherine Race. Mistakes were costly as Nazareth committed 31 hitting errors as a team and 17 service errors.
Jessica DiChristopher and Paulina Rein led Fredonia with 13 and 12 kills respectively. Kelly Edinger collected 38 assists.
The Golden Flyers open Empire 8 Conference play Saturday with a pair of home matches. They host Alfred at 11 a.m. and Utica at 4 p.m. In between, Alfred and Utica play at the Kidera Gymnasium at 1:30 p.m.
