The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College men's golf team has a seven-shot lead after the first of four rounds in the Empire 8 Conference Championship. The Cardinals shot a 310 on Saturday in windy conditions at Yahnundasis Golf Club in New Hartford and leads University of Scranton (317).
Stevens Institute of Technology sits third at 324 and Moravian College is fourth with a team score of 327. Elmira (335), Susquehanna (336), Nazareth (347) and Utica (353) complete the team standings at the end of the first round.
Scranton junior Ryan Brown shot a four-over-par 75 to take a one-shot lead over a trio of players including teammate Erik Meyer and Stevens' Frank Szucs and Cameron Hill.
Fisher's six players complete the top-ten, led by Chris Blyth and Devin Solar who are tied for fifth after shooting a 77.
Play will resume tomorrow morning before the tournament concludes with two more rounds in the spring.
