Ithaca Sets School Record; Bombers Second and Cardinals Fourth
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The Ithaca College women's golf team posted a school-record single-round team score of 309 at the second round of the Mount Holyoke Invitational and finished second in the highly competitive tournament with a two-day total of 635. Ithaca was 12 strokes behind Williams, who also posted a school-record for a single-round with a 301 on Sunday to finish first with a 623 total. The Bombers stood third after the opening round, but went past Middlebury on Sunday. Middlebury was third at 640. New York University, who finished ahead of Ithaca at the season-opening St. Lawrence Invitational, finished 15 shots behind Ithaca this time around with a 650.
Ithaca's Sunday round was achieved with excellent play through the top of the lineup, as all four scoring players posted rounds in the 70s.
Kimberley Wong led Ithaca on Sunday with a 76. She had an opening round score of 81 and finished with a 157.
Sharon Li shot 77 for the second day in a row and placed fourth among all individuals at the tournament with a 154.
Taylor Reeves had a career-best single-round score of 77 on Sunday with a front-nine 39 and a back-nine 38. Her two-day total of 160 was also a career-best.
Kelsey Baker rounded out the scoring lineup with a score of 79 on Sunday and a two-day total of 164. Ithaca's fifth player was
Kyra Denish with an 89 in the first round and a 90 in the second round for 179.
It is the second-straight year that Ithaca has finished second at this tournament. Ithaca's second-round score of 309 was two stroke better than the previous record total of 311, set at the opening round of the St. Lawrence Invitational in 2013 and at the Pat Clouse Invitational hosted by Wittenberg, also in 2013.
St. John Fisher College capped off the two-day invitational with a fourth place finish (404-398-802). Senior
Ceilia Fitzgerald launched a 98 each day to finish with a two day total of 196 (+52) earning a tie for 17
th place with fellow teammate
Christiann Lerminiaux.
The Cardinals saw
Jenna Stogsdill improve seven strokes from a 105 (+33) to a 98 (+26) on day two to finish in 24
th place.
Alexis Juda finished with a two day total of 207 (+63) to earn a 26
th place finish, while
Tess Gordon rounded out the scoring with a 222 (+78) for a 33
rd place finish.
