ten Vaanholt Leads Elmira to First Place Finish

Elmira, NY -- For a second consecutive year, the Elmira College men's golf team claimed a first place finish at the Elmira College Fall Invitational. Today's first place finish marks the second time this season EC has brought home top honors as the Soaring Eagles claimed first at the Utica College Fall Invitational in their second tournament of the season.
Leading the charge for the Soaring Eagles this afternoon was third-year golfer
Jarryd ten Vaanholt '16 who shot a four-over par 76 to claim medalist honors, his second first-place finish of the season. ten Vannholt was as consistent as one can be, posting a pair of 38's on the front and back nine. A large part of the reason ten Vaanholt claimed top honors today was his ability to score as he birdied five holes, including a three-hole stretch of birdies on the back side on holes 12 through 14.
Checking-in next for the Purple and Gold was fourth-year talent
Evan Clarke '15 who tied for second place with a five-over par 77. Clarke pared 11 holes today and had one birdie which led to his 77. His lone birdie of the afternoon came on a 473 yard par four. Classmate
Troy Gordon '15 was not far behind Clarke as he shot an 81 to place tied for fourth, a career-best for Gordon.
Niall O'Connor '15, playing for Elmira's "B" team, had the next lowest score for the Soaring Eagles with an 86. The final golfer for Elmira's "A" team that scored was
Brandon Payne '17 who shot an 87, which gave Elmira a team score of 321, four strokes better than second place finisher SUNY Delhi.
Elmira will have one day to enjoy today's victory as the Soaring Eagles will compete next at the Keuka College Fall Invitational on Thursday, September 25th at the Lake Side Country Club. Play at Keuka is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
