Bombers and Golden Flyers in NSCAA National Poll

The Ithaca College and Nazareth College women's soccer teams are representing the Empire 8 in the national rankings on Tuesday.  The Bombers stand at No. 19, followed by the Golden Eagles at No. 20 in the latest release of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America National Poll.

Ithaca is 5-1-0, including a mark of 1-0 in conference play. After receiving votes last week, the Bombers went 1-0 with an impressive 6-1 victory over Alfred on Saturday. Junior Kelsey King, sophomores Taylor Baranowsky, Megan Nash, freshmen Cortnie Vaughn, Kristyn Alonzo and Margaret Crowell each scored one goal in the rout. All three Ithaca goalkeepers saw action, including junior Beth Coppolecchia who played the first 79:33 and was credited with the win. 

The Bombers' next game is at Carp Wood Field on Wednesday, Sept. 24 against Elmira. The match is set to start at 4 p.m. 

Nazareth (6-1. 1-0), was also receiving votes last week is coming off a 5-1 victory against Houghton College.  The Golden Flyers scored four times in a 12:48 span early in the first half to take command of the E8 opener against Houghton. Each team scored once in the second half for the 5-1 final score. During the scoring run, junior Briana Vibbard had two goals while senior Elizabeth Howell had one goal and a pair of assists. Sophomore Michaela Soules also tallied a goal in each half.

Nazareth plays its next four games on the road before returning to host Hartwick on October 11th. The Golden Flyers' road trip begins with a non-conference contest at RIT on September 24th.
