UTICA, NY – Hartwick women's tennis scored a decisive 9-0 victory over Utica on Wednesday afternoon to even its overall record at 4-4. The Hawks also up their Empire 8 mark to 3-4.
Hartwick dropped only three games in doubles play. The Hawks would drop a grand total of 10 games in six singles matches in the team win.
Caitlin O'Brien (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) did not drop a game in either of her matches on the day. She teamed up with
Lauren Noyes (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) in third doubles for an 8-0 win. She then won in straight sets at number four singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Sisters
Kristen Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) and
Kelly Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) combined for an 8-0 win at second doubles. Kelly would then take her first singles match, 6-3, 6-0. Kristen won at third singles, 6-1, 6-0.
Steph Luce (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) and
Michaela Finnegan (Cumberland, ME/Greely) won at first doubles by a final count of 8-3. Finnegan also claimed a 6-2, 6-2 victory at second singles.
Noyes would take her match in the fifth singles flight, 6-1, 6-0.
Anna Van Allsburg (Prides Crossing, MA/Spring Ridge Academy) registered a 6-0, 6-1 win at sixth singles.
The Hawks will try to make it two wins in a row this Saturday. They travel to Aurora, NY for a match against Wells College at 1 p.m.
