Ithaca Wins Championship At Cortland
CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College golf team set a single-round school record score for the second week in a row, and it resulted in a tournament championship at the Martin & Wallace Invitational hosted by Cortland at the Cortland Country Club. Ithaca scored 308 in Sunday's second round, one shot better than last week's second-round score at Mount Holyoke, for a two-day total of 627 that was 18 strokes better than second-place finisher Methodist. It was Ithaca's first ever tournament finish over traditional national power Methodist, which has won 25 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships.
Ithaca's
Sharon Li took individual medalist honors and won the tournament with a two-day score of 147. Kimberly Wong scored 75 in the second round to finish at 153 in second place. Those were career-best scores for a single round and a 36-hole tournament for Wong. Ithaca's two-round score of 627 matches the all-time mark for the program, which was previously achieved at the Empire 8 and Wittenberg tournaments in 2013.
Kelsey Baker totaled 78 on Sunday, an eight-stroke improvement over Saturday's opening round. Her two-day total of 160 placed sixth overall in a field of 52 players.
Taylor Reeves shot 82 on Sunday to go with an opening-round 85 for a score of 167 and tied for 12th on the leaderboard.
Kyra Denish also had a four-shot improvement in Sunday's round and a score of 87 for a total of 187. Denish's single-round and tournament total tied her best scores of the season.
Indiana Jones and
Taylor MacDonald played as individuals, so their scores did not count toward the team total. Jones continued her excellent play over the last two weeks with a career-best score of 77 on Sunday and a two-day total of 158. Jones placed fifth among all individuals in the field and will move into the team's scoring lineup next week at Williams. MacDonald shot 86 on Sunday, a two-shot improvement over the opening round, and placed tied for 21st.
The St. John Fisher College women's golf team shot a 377 on Sunday and placed eight overall with a two-day total of 760 (383-377).
