Greapentrog Nets 100th Career Win

St. John Fisher College volleyball coach Kelly Greapentrog won her 100th career match on Wednesday night, as the Cardinals picked up their first win of the season with a straight-set victory over visiting D'Youville College.

Greapentrog is in her sixth season at Fisher.  She coached with the Cardinals in 2007 through 2009, and rejoined Fisher again in the summer in 2012.

Fisher was in control throughout the night.   Erica Stickler served 10 straight points in the opening set, including four aces, to pace the Cardinals to a 25-9 win in the opener.

After winning the second set 25-19, Erin Crandall served nine consecutive points, including three aces, to put the Cardinals up 16-6, en route to a 25-14 victory.

Freshman Madison Karwas led Fisher with eight kills, while posting an impressive .400 hitting percentage.  Classmate Amanda Miller added five kills on 10 attempts with no errors.

Paige Willson celebrated her 21st birthday with four kills.   Stickler tallied a team-high 17 assists and seven aces, while Anna Marcy added four aces.

Jordan DeMartino totaled a team-high nine digs.


STEVENS 3, Hunter 0
The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team need just over an hour in its home opener to complete the sweep of Hunter College on Wednesday evening in Canavan Arena.

Stevens (4-1) only trailed for four points the entire night in the second set, and used 17 service aces and a .338 hitting percentage to come away with its third consecutive victory. Set scores were 25-14, 25-7, 25-17.

The only time the Ducks fell behind actually took place in the second set, as they went down for the first time at 4-3. After Hunter went up, 6-4, Stevens answered back with a 21-1 run to close out the set.

During the remarkable run, sophomore Christina Sciarra notched four service aces and classmate Mary Tobin tallied a pair. On the evening, Sciarra recorded a career-high eight aces, including runs of three in a row on two separate occasions. She also added six kills on a .417 hitting percentage and three digs. Tobin paced Stevens with 11 kills and swung at a .400 clip to go along with three aces and a pair of digs.

Senior Ashley Castillo handed out a match-high 27 assists and also contributed three kills, three aces, three blocks and two digs. Freshman Brianna Evans played in two sets and led the Ducks with a .667 hitting percentage on seven kills in nine attempts.

Freshman Sydni Horner tied for a team-best with six digs and dished out four assists, while senior Kirsten Salmins also registered six digs in a set played.

Sophomore Becca Youngman added three kills for the Ducks, while senior Katie Hall and junior Annemarie Thomas each chipped in two kills. Hall also had two blocks, while Thomas had two digs.

The Ducks held Hunter to a -.017 hitting percentage in the match and finished plus-20 in kills, 35 to 15.
