STEVENS 6, Eastern 1
The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team closed out the month of September with a 6-1 non-conference home victory against Eastern University under the lights at the DeBaun Athletic Complex on Tuesday.

The Ducks came out aggressively in the first two minutes with a pair of shots, one on goal. Senior Mariah Cleveland ripped the opening strike just 43 seconds into the match but her attempt was saved. Forty-five seconds later, freshman Sammy Mount pushed her shot just wide of goal.

Cleveland put Stevens ahead, 1-0, in the 13th minute off a failed clear by Eastern. The Eagles attempted to send a threat from Stevens towards the right sideline, but Cleveland was there to intercept the clear and shoot from 20 yards out for her first goal of the season.

The Ducks then went up by a 2-0 difference 3:20 later off a perfect through ball from senior Stephanie Basile to classmate Ann Heine that set up a 1v1 opportunity. Cleveland also picked up an assist on the score after Basile sent the service off a one-touch.

Heine found the back of the net again in the 39th minute off a corner. On the initial ball into the box, sophomore Raba Nassif took the first shot, but it was turned away and immediately sent back in from Heine.

Nassif closed out the first half with her first of two markers on the evening in the 41st minute. She ran down a pass sophomore Gabby Mathelier that was sent from midfield and sent a strike over the reach of Eastern's goalie. Nassif corralled the ball in open space after outracing the Eastern backline.

Stevens' lead ballooned to five goals on Nassif's second goal of the contest in the 50th minute. The scoring chance started off the foot of Mathelier, who found Heine on a run down the right side, and after a quick settle, fed Nassif open within the left side of the six.

Mount notched the first collegiate goal in the 57th minute by way of a header off a corner kick from Cleveland.

Eastern finally got on the board nearly two minutes later off a failed clear by the Ducks.

Stevens outshot the Eagles, 32-7, and held Eastern shot-less in the first half, while the Ducks took 21.

Freshman Lindsey Mahnken earned the victory for Stevens in 45 minutes of action. Junior Evelyn Ting entered in the second half and made one save.

NAZARETH 0, Rochester 0
azareth and Rochester battled to a scoreless draw in non-conference women's soccer action Tuesday at Fauver Stadium. The game was stopped prior to the customary overtime period due to lightning. Therefore the game officially ends in a tie. Nazareth is 7-2-1 overall, while UR's record moved to 4-3-3.

Even though no goals were scored through 90 minutes of regulation play, Nazareth had pleanty of opportunities, including three of its four corner kicks in the last five minutes. The Golden Flyers also generated nine of their 13 shots in the second half and Yellowjackets' senior goalkeeper Aubrey Jaicks was called upon to make nine saves.

The visiting Golden Flyers got the first solid chance 13:30 in when Briana Vibbard slipped a pass up to Elizabeth Howell who got past Jaicks, but the play was well defended by a Rochester back and the senior's shot sailed wide left.

Ten minutes later, UR's first opportunity to get on the board was presented by the midfield combo of Lauren Pien and Kim Stagg.  Pien sent up a great service from the right wing, but Stagg was well covered by a Nazareth defender breaking up the play.

In the 37th minute, Jaicks came out of the net again and got beat to the ball by Nazareth's Rachel Dise, but her shot slid just wide of the net.  The teams headed to the locker room deadlocked at 0-0 through 45 minutes.

52 minutes into the game, the Golden Flyers Vibbard and Howell executed a strong give-and-go to break open along the left wing, but Howell's shot again went high of the Yellowjacket net.

Rochester's Stagg nearly found the net in the 69th minute off a long volley that took a high bounce in the box, but she couldn't control her shot and it sailed high.

Late in regulation, Nazareth's Howell and Vibbard both had excellent chances on turnaround strikes off of short entry corner kicks, but Jaicks made two great saves, keeping the game scoreless and sending the contest to overtime.

In the Nazareth net, sophomore Allison Dobles made one save to gain her second career shutout. Prior to the start of overtime, lightning was spotted in the area, sending the teams to the locker room for safety purposes.  Fifteen minutes into the delay, game officials called the contest ending it in a 0-0 draw. Nazareth outshot Rochester 13-8 overall and had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Rochester had won five of the previous six meetings with the Golden Flyers and leads the series 13-5-4. The teams also played to scoreless ties in 2006 and 2007.

D'Youville 4, ALFRED 0
The AU Saxons were shut out 4-0 by D'Youville College Tuesday evening after a half-hour delay put the game behind schedule.

The AU defense put up a strong fight to start the game only allowing one goal in the first 25 minutes.  The 1-0 game ensued for nearly the rest of the half when Liz Lyons increased the Spartan lead 2-0 only two minutes before half time.

The second half saw more of the same when the Saxons looked to hold the deficit at two, but the Spartan attack was too much increasing the lead 3-0 in the 57th minute.  The last goal for D'Youville came with only two seconds left in the game, with 4-0 showing as the final siren sounded.

The Spartans of D'Youville put up a very strong defensive showing to help bolster their offense against the Saxons.  Mary Hendee put two shots on goal for AU, leading the team. Sammy Jo Shanahan started in the goal and had five saves in 63 minutes.  Senior Alicia Hanes played the remainder of the game, tallying six saves.
