ECAC Honors Four E8 Athletes

Four Empire 8 Athletic Conference student-athletes have been honored as the Corvias Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Upstate and Mid-Atlantic Athletes of the Week for their performances during the week of August 25-31, 2015.

Division III Upstate - WXC
Runner of the Week
Ashton Villeneuve – Utica, Junior, Holland Patent, N.Y.

Villeneuve, a 2013 NCAA qualifier, opened her 2014 season with a victory at the 8th annual SUNYIT Short Course 5K Invitational. She placed first in the race for the second consecutive season after recording a time of 20:23.

Division III Upstate - MXC
Runner of the Week
Evan Magnussen, St. John Fisher College, Senior, Geneseo, N.Y.

Magnussen ran a 5:19 pace to land as the top overall finisher of the 5K Highlander Short Course Invitational. The senior finished with a final time of 16:24.2.

Division III Mid-Atlantic - Field Hockey
Offensive Player of the Week

Hannah Mackey - Utica, Senior, Forward, Locke, N.Y.

Mackey came out of the gates with a hot-hand this 2014 season, scoring a combined seven goals in two Pioneer wins over the weekend. The senior forward buried a hat trick in a 5-1 win over St. Lawrence University before knocking in four more in a 7-3 win over the College of Wooster.

Offensive Player of the Week
Shane Ruffing - Utica, Senior, Forward, Rochester, N.Y.

Ruffing opened the season with five goals over the course of two games to pace Utica to a 2-0 opening weekend. Ruffing provided all the scoring for the Pioneers in their season opening 3-0 win over The Sage Colleges Friday night. He then added two more goals in a 4-0 victory over Purchase on Saturday.
