Hartwick women's tennis won four of six singles and two of three doubles matches on Thursday as the Hawks opened their 2014 season with a 6-3 victory over The Sage Colleges in Troy.
Sisters
Kristen Napolitano and
Kelly Napolitano combined for an 8-2 rout at second doubles over Sage's Lauren Bendall and Katie Schultz to begin the day.
Lauren Noyes and
Anna Van Allsburg then earned an 8-5 win in the third flight over Alex Faas and Lindsey Tolman as 'Wick jumped out to a 2-1 advantage.
Nicole Schepisi, the Napolitano sisters, and
Caitlin O'Brien each made quick work of their opponents in singles play as they combined to drop just nine games.
Schepisi, at second singles, defeated Erin Duffy 6-1, 6-4.
Kelly Napolitano dropped only two games, 6-1, 6-1, agains
t Bendall at third singles. Kristen Napolitano didn't drop a game at the fifth flight against Faas, 6-0, 6-0. O'Brien, playing at sixth singles, beat Tolman 6-2, 6-0.
HOUGHTON 8, Medaille 1
The Highlanders picked up its first win of the season as it cruised 8-1 over Medaille College on Thursday afternoon. Houghton's record is now 1-2 while the Mavericks fall to 0-1.
Five of the wins were found in singles play including Jacuzzo, Laura (Seneca Falls, NY, Mynderse) 6-1, 6-0, Freihofer, Molly (Mexico, NY, Mexico) 6-3,6-3, Iacucci, Jennifer (Chili, NY, Gates-Chili) 6-4, 6-1, Jones, Lisa (Attica, NY, Homeschool) 6-1, 6-1, Mechler, Jennifer (Webster, NY, Webster Schroeder) 6-2, 6-2.
Chesebro/Sylor 8-3 and Taylor/Iacucci 8-6 earned their first doubles win this season.
Geneseo 9, NAZARETH 0
The Nazareth women's tennis team lost their non-conference match 0-9 to Geneseo Thursday afternoon. The Knights started off strong by sweeping all three doubles matches with the scores of 8-0, 8-2, 8-1.
