Ithaca and Elmira Compete At St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College and Elmira College women's golf teams competed in the season-opening St. Lawrence Invitational. Ithaca placed second in the field of nine teams with a tournament score of 647. Ithaca posted an opening-round total of 327 and stood in third place, then improved seven shots on Sunday to finish with a 320. Kelsey Baker took second among all individuals with a score of 153.

Elmira finished in ninth place after carding a two-day total of 795. Audrey Clarke '18 led the Soaring Eagles today with a complete tournament total of 187, placing her tied for 31st overall.
 
Ithaca's total was tied with host St. Lawrence, but Ithaca was awarded second on tie-breaker criteria because of a lower score from the fifth player in the lineup. New York University won the overall championship with a total of 625 on rounds of 319 and 306.
 
It was Baker's best finish as an individual in her collegiate career. She was tied for first in medal-play scoring with Alyssa Poentis of NYU, and the individual championship was decided in a playoff. Baker made par on the first playoff hole, but Poentis made birdie to win the medalist honors. Baker scored 77 in the opening round and then posted a 76 in Sunday's final round.
 
Sharon Li was tied for third overall with a score of 156 on back-to-back rounds of 78, and Kimberley Wong placed tied for 11th with 84-80 for a total of 164.
 
The rest of the Ithaca lineup included freshman Kyra Denish who scored 88-86 for a total of 174 in her collegiate debut. She finished tied for 17th overall. Taylor MacDonald rounded out the lineup with a pair of 91s for a total of 182 and placed tied for 25th.
 
Another highlight of the weekend tournament was the play of Taylor Reeves, who competed as an individual and posted a career-best round of 81 in Sunday's second round. She scored 86 in the opening round and had a 167, with was tied for 14th overall.

For Elmira, Keira Glasheen '17 carded a 98 in today's action to finish with a 195 to place 34th overall. Elizabeth Paolucci '17 finished 38th with a day-two score of 104 to finish with a 200. Giovanna DeLoca '17 improved 17 strokes from day-one to day-two to finish with a 98 and a 213 overall to finish 42nd. Cassie Chun '18 finished today with 113 to complete the tournament with a 228, finishing 45th overall.
