Final Results

The Utica College men's golf team fired a 338 Sunday on the final day of the SLU Invitational, shaving 20 strokes off its day one total (358). The Pioneers placed 11th with a two-day total of 696.  UC was led by junior captain Ryan Stalker (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) who turned in a 79, placing 36th overall.

Stalker totaled a 161 over the 36 hole tournament after carding an 82 Saturday on day one.  Freshman new addition Matthew Haley (Brownsville, NY/General Brown) continued his solid play as he finished second for Utica shooting a 173 for the tourney with scores of 89 on day one and an 84 on the final day. Junior Alex Malta (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) placed third for UC as he shot a 90 and an 87 for, totaling 177. Robert Broccoli (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) rounded out the Pioneers scorecard with a 185 as he struck an 88 on day two cutting nine strokes off his day one card.

The 36-hole tournament was held at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course at St. Lawrence University.  The 18-hole par-72 layout covers 6,698 yards from the championship tees.

The Pioneers will have a week off to prepare for the 2014 Empire 8 Golf Championships.  Utica will host the first two rounds of the championships set to be held at the nearby prestige Yahnundasis Golf Club in New Harford, NY.  The two-day event is set for Saturday Sept 20th and Sunday Sept. 21st.  Tee off is scheduled for 11 a.m.
