Hartwick Takes Down Cortland

ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick's men's swimming and diving team defeated teams SUNY Cortland on Saturday at The Sally Griffith Herbert '88 Aquatic Center. The Hawks (7-4) won 12 of 16 events on the day to defeat the Red Dragons by a final count of 156-119.

Senior Miles Blaney (New York, NY/NYC Lab School), and juniors Matt Plunkett (Cooper City, FL/Cooper City) and Brendan Day (Westfield, MA/Westfield) combined for seven individual victories. Blaney was first in the 200 free (1:44.48), the 100 free (47.65), and the 100 fly (54.26). Plunkett took both backstroke events, winning the 100 in 53.28 and the 200 in 1:55.90. Day took the breaststroke events, finishing first in the 100 in 1:02.64 and the 200 in 2:17.46.

Junior Ben Detar (Charleston, SC/Hanahan), sophomore Brendan Quinn (Raleigh, NC/Heritage) and sophomore Luis Santiesteban (Key Largo, FL/Coral Shores) also won events for 'Wick. Detar touched first in the 200 fly (1:56.79), Quinn was first in the 1000 free (10:18.19), and Santiesteban won the 200 IM (2:01.48).

Both competing relay teams also won on the afternoon. Plunkett, Day, Detar, and Joe Mulvehill (Penfield, NY/Penfield) took the 200 medley relay in 1:38.62. Brian Edmister III (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley), Mulvehill, Plunkett, and Blaney earned top billing in the 400 free relay.

Hartwick returns to the pool tomorrow in Schenectady. The Hawks will face teams from Union and Springfield.
