Hartwick Defeats SUNY Cortland

ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick's women's swimming and diving team defeated SUNY Cortland on Saturday at The Sally Griffith Herbert '88 Aquatic Center. The Hawks (4-7) won by a final score of 158-133. They won eight events.

Juniors Imma Rutigliano (Tillson, NY/John A. Coleman) and Helen Merkley (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) combined for five individual wins for the Hawks' women's team. Rutigliano won the 200 free (2:00.84), the 100 free (55.63), and the 200 individual medley (2:15.67). Merkley was victorious in the 50 free (26.52) and the 200 back (2:18.42).

Sophomores Ally Agate (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) and Morgan Riggins (Austin, TX/Dripping Springs) also won events for the Hawks. Agate took first in the 100 back with a time of 1:03.71. Riggins was tops in the 200 breaststroke (2:41.52).

The Hartwick 400 free relay team also was first on the day. Kaitlyn Campbell (Bartlett, IL/Glenbard North), Rachel Bellis (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua), Gwen Mathias (Sunland, CA/Southwestern Academy), and Rutigliano won in a time of 3:47.03.

Hartwick returns to the pool tomorrow in Schenectady. The Hawks will face teams from Union and Springfield.
